A Little About The Owner.

It all started about 25 years ago. A pickup truck, some tools around the house and some fliers to hand out in search of miscellaneous landscaping for neighbors’ homes. I did this through the last few years of my high school years and things began to grow. I grew a nice clientele of lawn maintenance and service accounts before I graduated high school. After high school I attended Ohio University and while there, had some friends take care of the weekly grass accounts. As the business grew for the next 2 years I was forced to transfer to Kent State to be able to be closer to the business in the spring and fall. 2 years later I had some choices to make, keep on growing the landscaping business or get a job for what I went to college for. My passion for outdoor creations and controlling my own destiny for the future made my decision to focus on the growth of my landscaping business. Over the next several years I got away from the grass-cutting side of the business and began installing lawns, bed installation, and irrigation and brick patios. This is where I felt my true design and creation experience was. I was able to be a single contractor for brand new homes and do all the landscaping. The big thing with me is that I never am afraid to try something new, I think of something new as a challenge and it brings out the competitive side in me that goes back to my younger days in sports. As the ‘90s went by with the economy and housing being strong, things were headed in the right direction, the biggest problem was the winter thing in Northeast Ohio. Hard to put landscapes when it is snowing! Towards the end of the ‘90s my dad saw downtime I had in the winter months and he brought to me the idea of building a couple of houses during the winter and we could both make a little bit money. Everyone else was doing it, so why couldn't we? So over the next several years I ran the landscaping business during the summer and worked on the home building during the winter. I also purchased a 30,000 lbs. Cat excavator and did the excavating and sewer and septic work for the homes. Between the landscaping, home building and excavating, I also managed to build a couple of houses for myself. As you can see over the span of 8 years, I had a lot of 7-day work weeks! This wasn't going to last forever especially with a serious girlfriend, so I had to step back and focus on where my future was. So my dad and I closed up the home building, got out of the excavating side of things and kept on landscaping. But for me, one business was never enough. So back in 2000 about the same time I got married I open a small retail shop that today is known as American Home and Energy Products. My store specializes in the newest trends for outside patios, water features, outdoor kitchens, and outdoor and indoor fireplaces. The one thing that you will notice over the years that I have not been able to let go of is the passion for creating landscapes. All of my various construction and design experiences over the years it gives me the tools to be able to create a masterful backyard landscape retreat. So this is where I have been led today! I believe that the best way to complete a dream landscape is with some type of water feature, whether it is a pool, pond or pondless feature, this is where Pools Patios Ponds all begins.
